I've been distant and mainly for the reason that I am transitioning from coupled to single, from fear to faith, from living with someone to living alone, from one routine to another and from feeling sad and hopeless to feeling lighter and on the verge of hopeful for what is to come. I've been humming a song for going on 3 weeks now. I didn't know any of the lyrics, only knew it was the Head and the Heart but I couldn't think of the name and despite listening to what I thought was all of their songs, not one sounded like the one I have been humming so consistently and so longingly. I found it today. The Winter Song. Here are the lyrics.
Tell me somethin', give me hope for the night
We don't know how we feel
We're just prayin' that we're doin' this right
Though that's not the way it seems
Summer gone, now winter's on its way
I will miss the days we had
The days we had
I will miss the days we had
The days we had
Oh, I'll miss the days we had
Loving, leaving, it's too late for this now
Such esteem for each has gone
Has time driven our season away?
'Cause that's the way it seems
In the world of the speech that is new
I'll be back again to stay
Again to stay
I'll be back again to stay
Again to stay
I'll be back again to stay
It's so beautiful and hits home so hard. A song that so sadly but sweetly explains the feelings behind change and transition. It's as though my body knew the feelings but also knew they could only be articulated clearly in song form. I've listened to the song all day and have almost cried at times but also feel the hope of either something new down the road or perhaps somehow a return and a rebirth of what was. I've always said I'm not good with transition. I tend to fall back into bad habits and in some ways I have caught myself doing those same things again. But with new awareness and insight into how and why those habits have been created and continued. Ultimately I can feel the shift of trying to stop relying on myself and instead relying on what is bigger, all knowing and all loving.
